Odontomachus monticola

Commonly known as the Trap Jaw Ant, they have sensitive hairs on their large mandibles, when touched this triggers one of the fastest reactions in the animal kingdom

Although aggressive and exciting, they spend most of their time underground, only really leaving the nest to hunt, this is often done by lone workers, calling in help for tackling larger prey.

These Ants mainly feed on protein and will often ignore sugary foods completely, this being said, they do enjoy a sugary snack offered from time to time.

Native to Asia, these awesome Ants use their snapping abilities of their mandibles to propel themselves backwards. This is used as a form of defence if a worker feels threatened.

Their main prey would be Termites, they use their powerful jaws and stingers to subdue their prey.
